Red Dragon Karate Nice write up from our friends at Red Dragon ...
Yesterday, (2nd June) I once again had the pleasure of training with Sensei Scott Langley. The course was held in the now familar Wednesbury Leisure Centre, in the Midlands, and was hosted by HDKI - GB. Two two-hour sessions, the theme of which was the use of the hips, and body to generate speed and power in the limbs. The method used to demonstrate these important principles were two of the Tekki Kata, Shodan and Sandan, and they were deconstructed and rebuilt over the course of the afternoon. An exercise in Kihon, disguised as Kata. Kata which we thought we knew, were revealed to us again, in greater detail, more dynamic, more functional. In short- Better. My previous knowledge and understanding of these Kata proved superficial, my ability to perform them now seems greatly enhanced, or will be, once I implement my newly aquired knowledge over the coming weeks and months. And because this was all principle based, rather than being specific to certain Kata, it can be applied to any and all Kata. I stand at the foot of the mountain!
As usual, I was made to feel very welcome among my HDKI friends, and I thoroughly enjoyed the day, as physically demanding as it was. Already looking forward to the next time. Many thanks to Aimee Jo and HDKI for the invitaiton. ... See more
